The effect of sleep deprivation is similar to the effects of stress on the immune system. The National Sleep Foundation describes this in a new study: “Severe sleep loss jolts the immune system into action, reflecting the same type of immediate response shown during exposure to stress.”

The Mayo Clinic website addresses this lack of sleep and the immune system and recommends how much sleep is needed. “Aim to get at least seven hours of sleep a night so that you have the energy to tackle everyday demands.”
